ACFAS has different levels of membership: Fellow, Associate, Post-Graduate Fellow and Resident. 

Fellow Member

  • Board Certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS)


Change of Status from Associate to Fellow

  • Current Associate Member of ACFAS, and
  • Achieved Board Certified Status from the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS)


Associate Member

  • Board Qualified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS)
  • Not currently enrolled in a surgical fellowship program (If in a fellowship, please use the Post Graduate Fellow Member application)

Post Graduate Fellow Member

  • Enrolled in a surgical fellowship program, at least 12 months in length, immediately after completion of a surgical residency program that has provisional or approved status by CPME

Resident Member in Post Graduate Year 2 or 3 (PGY-2 & PGY-3)

  • Enrolled in a surgical residency program that has been granted provisional status or has been approved by CPME

Resident Member in Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY-1) 

  • First-year resident enrolled in a surgical residency program that has been granted provisional status or has been approved by CPME

Emeritus Member

  • Member in good standing for 15 consecutive years, AND
  • Has reached the age of 62, AND
  • Actively engaged in practice no more than 20 hours per week, or has been forced into curtailment of practice because of illness (submission of written statement from physician, other than self, is required), AND
  • Maintain Certified, Qualified or Retired status with the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS)

 OR

  • Completely retired and remains retired from practice and a member in good standing for 25 consecutive years, AND
  • Maintain Certified, Qualified or Retired status with the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS)

Life Member

  • Member in good standing for 15 consecutive years, AND
  • Completely retired from practice, AND
  • Has reached the age of 65, AND
  • Maintain Certified, Qualified or Retired status with the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS)

 OR

  • Member in good standing for 40 consecutive years, AND
  • Maintain Certified, Qualified or Retired status with the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS)
