Dr. Scott C. Nelson Elected President-Elect of National Surgical Society

NEW ORLEANS (February 15, 2019)-In ceremonies today, Scott C. Nelson, DPM, FACFAS, took office as president-elect of the 7,600-member American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS). The official induction took place at the ACFAS 77th Annual Scientific Conference in New Orleans.

The ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference, the largest educational meeting for foot and ankle surgeons in the US, draws attendees from around the world to discuss the most current techniques and technology for treatment of deformities, diseases and injuries of the foot and ankle.

"It is a humbling honor to be able to serve as President-Elect of such a passionate and dedicated organization as the College." Dr. Nelson said. "The upcoming year and beyond will be exciting as we focus on the importance of incorporating even more robust research into the organization to further help advance the profession and the care of our patients," he added.  

Dr. Nelson is a foot and ankle surgeon with Catholic Health Initiative Orthopedics Foot and Ankle in the greater Omaha area. He is board-certified in both foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and is a Fellow Member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

Dr. Nelson holds a podiatric medical degree from Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, IA, and completed his residency at both The Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh and the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Mary's, OH. Dr. Nelson frequently lectures on foot and ankle surgery, and his research has been published in numerous journals and textbooks.
