Dr. John S. Steinberg Becomes President of National Surgical Society

NASHVILLE, TN, (March 23, 2018)-John S. Steinberg, DPM, FACFAS, took office today as the 67th president of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS), a national association of more than 7,500 foot and ankle surgeons, during the ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference in Nashville, TN.
 
The Annual ACFAS Scientific Conference, the largest educational meeting for foot and ankle surgeons in the US, draws attendees from around the world to discuss the most current techniques and technology for treatment of deformities, diseases and injuries of the foot and ankle.
 
"As president, my primary focus will be to continue to strengthen the role of the College in education, research and advocacy. We need to assure that the future of this profession will be even better equipped to deliver state-of-the-art foot and ankle surgery to our patients," Dr. Steinberg, said. "There has never been a better time to be a foot and ankle surgeon, and we as a board are committed to continuing that trend."

Dr. Steinberg is the co-director of the Center for Wound Healing and the director of the Diabetic Limb Salvage Research Fellowship at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. He is board-certified in both foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. Dr. Steinberg is also a professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine, Department of Plastic Surgery in Washington, DC.
 
Dr. Steinberg holds a podiatric medical degree from Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine in Miami Shores, Florida, and completed his residency at Inova Fairfax Podiatric Surgical Residency Program in Fairfax, Virginia. He then completed a diabetic foot-limb salvage fellowship with the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Dr. Steinberg frequently lectures on foot and ankle surgery internationally, and his research has been published in numerous journals and textbooks. He has directed the creation of live surgical case videos and participates in ACFAS educational programs.
